: 1Species that can be relatively easily identified even by inexperienced recorders with the use of up-to-date field guides. Such records would be accepted without the need for additional evidence as long as they conform to the normal flight period and geographical range of the species.
Resident. Normally occurs sparingly or fairly commonly in woods; rare along treeless parts of the coast. Very local, very irregular in high numbers, and currently completely missing from large areas. Single-brooded, flying mainly from early October to mid November, occasionally from the third of September or to third week of November. Larvae feed on sloe, cherry laurel, hawthorn, apple, and plum.
