A Nationally Notable Class A species, resident and usually occurring sparingly, but sometimes fairly common to common on downland slopes in the East. In danger of extinction in the West. Extremely local and very irregular in high numbers, colonies may now be confined to the chalk between Saddlescombe and Edburton. Single-brooded, usually flying for a short period during the last three weeks of June. Larvae feed on common (lesser) and greater knapweed. (Pratt, 2011)
