A resident species in decline, sometimes fairly common on downland slopes in the East, previously also along a few woodland rides. In danger of extinction in the West. Generally extremely local, distinctly irregular in numbers and never recorded to the east of Eastbourne. Single-brooded, flying mainly from late May to early July. Larvae feed on sorrel.
