Should not present any difficulty for experienced recorders, but inexperienced recorders may be expected to provide additional evidence in the form of photographs of reasonable quality that show as many of the identification features as possible or, alternatively, a specimen. Even experienced recorders may be expected to provide additional evidence if the record is outside of the normal flight period or geographical range of the species.
Presumed extinct in both halves of the county, since about the 1920's in the east and 1940's in the west. Previously native, larvae occurred sparingly in a band of colonies stretching across mid-county and in a few places in the far west. Always extremely local. The flight-time has not been recorded in Sussex but is presumed to have been from mid June to late July, as in other counties. Larvae fed on wood inside poplar, black poplar, and probably on the more commonplace introduced hybrids. (Pratt, 2011).
