: 1Species that can be relatively easily identified even by inexperienced recorders with the use of up-to-date field guides. Such records would be accepted without the need for additional evidence as long as they conform to the normal flight period and geographical range of the species.
A resident species in decline, usually occurring sparingly at mv light but occasionally common at dusk along woodland paths, rides and in clearings - especially on inland heaths. Widespread but completely absent from the coastal strip. Very local and distinctly episodic and elusive in any numbers. Although nationally stated to be single-brooded, within the region fresh specimens fly most numerously in two distinct peaks, from early June to mid-July and again during the final three weeks of August. Larvae feed inside the roots of bracken and later in the shoots. (Pratt, 2011)
