Even experienced recorders may be expected to provide additional evidence if the record is outside of the normal flight period or geographical range of the species.
A resident species in decline, generally rare and elusive in woods and on heathery tracts but sometimes fairly common to common in a few places in the west. In danger of extinction in the east and recently only detected there are Wadhurst and Icklesham. Extremely local and very irregular in appearance. Although nationally stated to be single-brooded, within the region fresh specimens fly most numerously in two distinct peaks, from late May to late June and sometimes again during the latter half of August. Larvae feed on bracken. (Pratt, 2011)
