Identification 
difficulty 
: 1Species that can be relatively easily identified even by inexperienced recorders with the use of up-to-date field guides. Such records would be accepted without the need for additional evidence as long as they conform to the normal flight period and geographical range of the species.

Resident. Both moth and larvae usually occur sparingly, but they are occasionally fairly common to common both on chalk downs and acid heaths. Extremely local, distinctly episodic in any numbers, missing from large areas of the county, and seriously decreasing. Single-brooded flying from mid May to mid June, occasionally from late April or to the third week of June. Larvae feed on bramble, salad burnet, dyer's greenweed, heather, hawthorn, bird's-foot trefoil and cinquefoil. (Pratt, 2011)
