Identification
difficulty

: 1Species that can be relatively easily identified even by inexperienced recorders with the use of up-to-date field guides. Such records would be accepted without the need for additional evidence as long as they conform to the normal flight period and geographical range of the species.

Resident in East Sussex, but in danger of extinction; extinct in West Sussex since about 1877. Currently only known from the vegetated shingle beach at Rye, where adults usually occur sparingly, sometimes fairly commonly at mv light. Extremely local and irregular in numbers. Single-brooded, flying mainly from late July to late August, occasionally from mid July. Larvae feed on unspecified fine grasses, sallow, bramble and broom. (Pratt, 2011)
