Identification
difficulty
: 1Species that can be relatively easily identified even by inexperienced recorders with the use of up-to-date field guides. Such records would be accepted without the need for additional evidence as long as they conform to the normal flight period and geographical range of the species.

Resident. The moth usually occurs sparingly but it is sometimes fairly common. Extremely local in any numbers and restricted to sites on or near to chalk, including that moved around the county for agricultural purposes, and to vegetated shingle beaches; never detected in the north-east of the county. Single-brooded, flying mainly from late June to the second week of August, occasionally from late May or to mid August. Larvae feed on the roots of kidney vetch and bird's-foot trefoil. Hellebore has also been mentioned as a possible foodplant. (Pratt, 2011).
