A resident species. Larvae usually occur singly or sparingly amongst deciduous woodland and on heathland in both vice-counties. Probably under-recorded. Single-brooded, flying mainly during May, but this has not yet been confirmed in Sussex. Larvae feed on silver birch and downy birch. (Pratt, 2011)
