Identification difficulty
: 1Species that can be relatively easily identified even by inexperienced recorders with the use of up-to-date field guides. Such records would be accepted without the need for additional evidence as long as they conform to the normal flight period and geographical range of the species.
A resident species which is also a suspected immigrant. Usually occurs singly at mv light and sparingly at sugar and is occasionally seen flying naturally by day. Well distributed in the south but less so in the north and now missing from the north-west. Single-brooded flying mainly from late July to late October. Larvae feed on willow and poplar. (Pratt, 2011)
