Identification

: 1Species that can be relatively easily identified even by inexperienced recorders with the use of up-to-date field guides. Such records would be accepted without the need for additional evidence as long as they conform to the normal flight period and geographical range of the species.

A resident that usually occurs sparingly in a wide range of habitats, but it is sometimes fairly common and occasionally common amoungst deciduous woodland. Probably generally distributed but very local in numbers. Chiefly double-brooded and occasionally partially triple-brooded, the species flies most numerously in two overlapping emergences from late May into September. Sometimes a third emergence becomes widespread in the county, this flying throughout September and October, as in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2008. Adults have been seen in every week from the second week of April to late October. Larvae feed on Dock and other unspecified low-growing plants. (Pratt, 2011)
