Identification difficulty
: 2Species where care is needed for identification. Even experienced recorders may be expected to provide additional evidence if the record is outside of the normal flight period or geographical range of the species.
An immigrant which only occurs singly, at rest and mv light, chiefly near the East Sussex coast; rare in the west of the county. Approaching 90 individuals have been recorded in the county since the first in about 1840, almost half of which were larvae. Brighton is the leading area in the county for this species, whilst the whole of the west of the county only holds 18 records. Very irregular in appearance throughout. The species arrives mainly between early July and early September. The larvae feed on white bedstraw, yellow bedstraw, garden Fuschia and Godetia. (Pratt, 2011)
