A resident and suspected immigrant and proposed Red Data Book Class 3 moth. It generally occurs singly or sparingly at mv light along the coast, favouring sand-dunes and vegetated shingle beaches. It sometimes penetrates inland. Colonies are now restricted to the west of Worthing and to the east of St Leonards. It is single-brooded, flying mainly from late June to early September, occasionally from late May or to the third week of September. The larval foodplant is said to be mosses but this is unconfirmed in Sussex. (Pratt, 2011).
