A resident species in serious danger of extinction in East Sussex, where the moth is sometimes common by day flying over short herb-rich turf on chalk scree. Extremely local, distinctly episodic in high numbers, and currently almost entirely restricted to the downs between Eastbourne and Peacehaven; extinct in West Sussex since about 1905. Single-brooded, flying mainly between late June and early August. Larvae feed on wild thyme. (Pratt, 2011).
