: 1Species that can be relatively easily identified even by inexperienced recorders with the use of up-to-date field guides. Such records would be accepted without the need for additional evidence as long as they conform to the normal flight period and geographical range of the species.

A resident species often fairly common and sometimes common along the coast especially at tungsten, neon and mv light. Generally less frequent inland. Well distributed but local in numbers. Although nationally stated to be single-brooded, within the region fresh specimens fly most numerously in two distinct peaks, timed during the first half of June and again from early August to mid-September. Larvae feed on the roots of various plants including bracken, burdock and viper's bugloss. (Pratt, 2011)
