A resident species and suspected occasional immigrant. Usually occurs singly or sparingly in deciduous woods, but sometimes common at mv light on Ashdown Forest and in the extreme north-west. Only thinly distributed in the west and even less so in the east, becoming scarce in the extreme east. Recovering, but extremely local and irregular in any numbers. Single-brooded, flying mainly from late March to mid-May. Larvae feed on oak. (Pratt, 2011)
