A resident species whose larvae are often common amongst deciduous woodland in the West, but less so in the East. Adults generally occur singly and are only occasionally numerous at mv light. Well distributed in large areas and increasing. Triple-brooded, flying mainly during the last three weeks of June, again from mid-July to mid-August and then from mid- or late August to mid-October. The latter brood hibernates and reappears in the spring up to mid-May. Larvae feed on the leaves of a wide range of trees. (Pratt, 2011)
