A resident species reinforced by immigration and occurring singly or sparingly in a wide range of habitats. Well distributed to the east of Eastbourne, but extremely local and distinctly episodic elsewhere. Double brooded, flying from early May to mid June and again from late June to the third week of August. The larvae feed on oak, (silver) birch, ash, privet and damson. (Pratt 2011)
