A resident species that occurs singly or sparingly but is sometimes fairly common at mv light in woods. Thinly distributed in the west and the far east of the county and absent from large areas in between. Very local and distinctly episodic in appearance. Single brooded, flying chiefly from mid July to the third week of October. Until recently adults were recorded in two distinct flights and it was suggested that this was due to “two ecologically separate races” with different emergence times. The larvae feed on oak.
