An often fairly common to common species seen by day in damp meadows and orchards where it is currently found in the extreme north of East Sussex in and around Crowborough and the Ashdown Forest, and around Burwash. It has been presumed extinct in West Sussex since about the mid 1970s and is in decline in the eastern vice-county. It is a single-brooded species, with adults on the wing mainly from late May until early July, occasionally until as late as early August. Larvae feed on earth-nut. (Pratt, 2011)
