A resident species in serious decline, generally occurring singly or sparingly, but occasionally fairly common to common at mv light at Icklesham and often so at rest on Ashdown Forest heather. Thinly distributed across the east but now missing from most western parts. Single-brooded, flying mainly from late July to mid- to late September. Larvae feed on sallow and (silver) birch.
