A resident species, often fairly common to common at mv light in pine woods, but scarce along treeless parts of the coast. Patchily distributed and high numbers are very local. Double-brooded, flying mainly from early May to mid-July and from early September to early November. Larvae feed chiefly on Scots pine and less frequently on Douglas fir. (Pratt, 2011)
