A sighting in Arundel in 1800 is incorrect. The moth has only been found in four localities in Sussex, all in the west. According to W.H.B. Fletcher by 1886 the moth had been detected feeding on buckthorn in Arundel Park and Salvington Down and by 1899 it was common in Worthing. No further encounters were made until 2001 when vacated mines were found in Stansted Forest (Pratt, 2011)
