A resident species which occurs sparingly at mv light in a wide range of habitats but sometimes fairly common on heathland. Widespread but very local and distinctly irregular in numbers. Increasing. Single brooded, flying mainly from late August to the third week of October. Larval foodplants unknown in Sussex but a wide variety of unspecified plants and grasses have been mentioned elsewhere. (Pratt, 2011)
