A resident species occurring singly or sparingly in a wide range of habitats, especially within about seven miles of the coast. Well distributed in the far east, less so elsewhere in the south. Scarce in the north and missing from a large part of central Sussex. Single-brooded flying from third week of July to late August. Larvae feed inside stems of common reed. (Pratt, 2011)
