Immigrant and occasional temporary resident. As a resident the moth is very local but sometimes fairly common flying by day along warm woodland rides and in domestic gardens near the coast. As an immigrant it usually occurs singly by day and at mv light, very irregularly, in a wide range of habitats. Larvae can be locally common. Single-brooded flying mainly during warm sunny evenings and at night from early June to mid July. Adults apparently fly later in our introduced colonies (Portslade and Plumpton), chiefly from late June to early August. Immigrants arrive from late May onwards. Larvae feed on stinging nettle, comfrey, hemp-agrimony, evergreen alkanet, and buddleja. (Pratt, 2011)
