Resident species often occurring sparingly or fairly commonly in a wide range of habitats but occasionally common in woods. Much less frequent along treeless parts of the coast. Probably generally distributed. Double-brooded flying mainly in two overlapping emergences between early May and late August. Larvae feed on (silver) birch, alder and hazel. (Pratt, 2011)
