A resident species, often fairly common to common at mv light in woodlands. Probably generally distributed, but local in high numbers and much less frequent along treeless parts of the coast. Double brooded, flying from mid March to mid May and again from late June to late August. The larvae feed on (silver) birch, hawthorn, sallow, hazel, bramble, rose, raspberry, sloe and damson. (Pratt 2011)
