This nationally notable 'A' resident is currently restricted to two distinct zones on the chalk downs within 10 miles of the coast between Angmering and Shoreham in the west and between Peacehaven and Eastbourne in the east. It is single-brooded, flying mainly from mid March until late April, when it can been sought by torch-light in sheltered bushy places on the downs. Larvae feed on wild privet. (Pratt, 2011)
