A resident species in decline, usually occurring sparingly in a range of sheltered habitats, but occasionally fairly common to common at torchlight and mv light in a few spots on the chalk. Extremely local and irregular in numbers and now restricted to just three zones - the far east, around Newhaven and between Shoreham and Horsham. Single-brooded, flying mainly from mid-March to early May. Larvae feed on bedstraw. (Pratt, 2011)
